WTF!
Just saw this piece of news over at Malaysiakini:
The government, which will announce the framework for its revamped fuel subsidy scheme tomorrow, has set the goal of raising the pump price to market levels by August, a minister said.
Currently petrol sells for about RM1.92 a litre, among the cheapest in the region.
If petrol is to be sold at full market prices, it could be as high as almost RM4 a litre – about 100 percent above current levels.
With this increase, we should also expect 100% in prices of other items ranging from food to other items which required transportation to get from one point to another…which means everything! I seriously do not see how this will not affect the lower income group.
Sure, many in the lower income bracket may not have cars so it may not directly affect them but what about the definitely possible increase of food and essential items? Food operators will definitely increase their prices. Other traders will take the opportunity to increase the prices of their goods too and I don’t blame them, petrol prices is one of their costs too.
WTF. I think I have to sell of my car, get a bicycle and cycle everywhere from now on…waitaminute, heh, I don’t know how to cycle wor. Craps. Can’t even depend of RapidPenang and we can forget all about the taxis lar.
Sigh…can I use this as an excuse not to show up at work occassionally?
Boss: why you didn’t come to work?
Me: because of petrol price hike
Boss: what has that got to do with anything?
Me: I can’t afford to pay for the petrol, RapidPenang does not cover my housing area, taxies are out to rob me blind and it is too far for me to walk to work so I decided to stay home.
Boss: Then stay home and don’t ever come back!
Me: thank you boss, you are so understanding. With full pay issit?
Boss: $%^&#@ No, it means you are fired!
Me: You can’t do that boss, I need the money to pay for some petrol so that I could use the car to pick up my son from the babysitter’s.
Boss: @#$#%$%#
Sigh…we live in difficult times.

I just read the news too. Pretty worry that next time I have to pay around RM200 for a full tank petrol. I pump it average once a week. That’s mean I will spend RM800 just for petrol. That is 30% of my salary. Almost 2/3 of salary goes to my car (inclusive of my car loan). Luckily, hubby is paying for the house.
Hopefully this is not going to work.
Choonies last blog post..Lilianinis?
Typical example of bodohland…..how can you raise the price of fuel to full market value in one hit. The whole freaking country WILL COLLAPSE.
Absolute IDIOTS. There are many many people on the “breadline’. They cannot afford to see prices of ordinary items go up double in price in two months. Talk about hyper inflation.
Our people walking the corridoors of power have absolutely no freaking brains. Do what they propose and the ringgit will depreciated at least 30% overnight!!!!
Malaysia is run by a pack of fuckwits !!!
hate to tell you this but at current US$125 per tonne, the actual unsubsidize price is higher than RM 4 per litre
[...] Foong spoke her mind and she is not happy. But I came by HTNET who thought it would be fun running a competition. It’s called: “HTNet Speculate Guess The New Price Of Malaysian Petrol Contest” [...]
It has to come
The gravy train gets side-track
Losing 5 states and no majority stake
The Bodohland gives a cold hug
‘You pay people
And I don’t care!’
Time to bite the bullet
BN wants to feed
In this way it comes easy
In 7 days people will keep quiet
Only the whispering meandering in the air
For the fall of sleeping beauty arrives
On market price
The petrol will jump high
The car owners and TNB
We will see many jumping mad
Then when everything is finally done
The lambs will just follow the shepherd
Into the grass land to forget…………….
The economy will spiral
The people will suffer greatly
In a little while the storm disappears
Only waiting underground to hit the road again
My take it will increase gradually
Maybe by $0.50 per liter until it hits $4.00
This scarce commodity is a high prize item
When it is over, there is nothing to salvage
Now we hear the news
The shock and the pockets full of holes
Money easily gone while working hard for it
We have to bite the bullet
We can’t possibly escape the hike
choonie: ya lor….really gila wan if they are seriously considering this…
engineer: I couldn’t agree more!
hamzah: and the price is set to rise even more….this is really ridiculous considering we have our own petroleum!
caravanserai: yep, there is no escape for it but heck, something is really fishy about all this!
well…get a bicycle and cycle to work.
Or work from home…we are not going to have subsidy here and there.
It got to end one day.
In the absence of any new discoveries, Malaysia’s oil is due to run out within the next 5 to 10 years.
At current consumption and production levels Malaysia will become a net importer of oil very soon. It doesn’t have to wait until the oil runs out. Once demand exceed supply, we become a net importer paying market price !!!
The gomen cannot afford to subsidies petrol when it has to pay market prices at the current level. Therefore the price of petrol has to go up. At full market price it is roughly RM4.80 a litre for 91 RON grade unleaded.
Anyway the country’s ever growing National Debt is becoming a bigger and bigger problem everyday. It cannot afford to hold the subsidy for much longer.
The biggest worry is inflation. Inflation harms everybody especially those on fix incomes (pensioners) and those on low income that is not indexed.
Even the big middle class will be effected. You think the country is a mess now?? Wait till you see galloping inflation at 20% !!!!!!
