It is an eerily quiet night.
The Hungry Ghost month is almost over.
The Mooncake Festival is about to take over soon.
Having waited 10 hours to set aside the syrup, alkaline water and then dough, I finally started the kneading and rolling and filling. The night is stuffy, so much so, I am sweating buckets just kneading the sticky dough. Forming balls. Flattening the dough. Scooping fillings, adding lotus seeds. Moulding it. Placing on greased tray. While trying not to leave fingerprints, flour, sticky dough on every surface.
It’s my first attempt at making mooncakes and I am trying out in making double chocolate mooncakes. What? I love chocolates. And I love mooncakes. Why not combine the best of both worlds, eh?
After 20 minutes more (or is it one hour?)….
Dang it.Take my advice. DON’T try to bake mooncakes in the middle of the night when decisions are skewed, measurements are OUT, hands are too itchy.
My mooncakes came out okay but itchy hands some more and go put too much egg glaze (okay, okay, so I ‘accidentally’ overdo it)…
Ended up with…
Er…pus-covered double chocolate mooncakes (It’s double chocolate mooncake because the skin has cocoa and the filling is chocolate too) with lotus seeds anyone?
Trust me. It looks worse than that in real full technicolour 3D life. Although the smell is to the contrary, very damn inviting. Just imagine the smell of a baking rich chocolate cake.
Ugghhh…and I had visions of giving it to friends and relatives and they would ‘Ooh’ and ‘Ahhh’ over my wonderful, talented, genius baking skills. HAH. They’d probably run for the hills after one look at those unappetising looking mooncakes.
Crap.
On the bright side, I can have these Double Chocolate Mooncakes all to myself.
Muahahahahah…
From the smell, I am betting that it would taste heavenly. Hey, genius, talented mooncake baking specialist here, okay? How else could I bake perfect mooncakes (okay, okay, except for the pus-covered look) at 3am on a weekday with early working hours the next day, I ask you? (and still find time to blog about it at 3.30am!!)
Yep. Nothing more than genius. Anyone want to order mooncakes?
I may consider making more (non-bake with cheese and another baked with lotus paste) over the weekend. Cheap only. RM12 each. Delivery not included. Packaging not included. Insurance against food poisoning also not included. Heheheh.
