Since we are all (especially bloggers) being frightened with all the ISA threat due to recent events, I have to be more careful of what I blog here.
At least until the storm has passed. The anger against the ISA arrests on the ground is palpable. But my advise to all those feeling even remotely violent to take a big breath and cool. There is no point resorting to violence as this is exactly what they want so that they will have more reasons to use the ISA and arrest more people.
So, use the best way to get back at your enemy. When someone really irritate, annoy and anger you no end, you only need to smile, say ‘thank you’ and act as it it does not bother you at all. This will only serve to irritate and annoy the person that anger you!
Anyway, here’s the latest on what’s happening:
Sin Chew reporter released
Sep 13, 08 4:19pmSin Chew Daily senior reporter Tan Hoon Cheng was released by the police at 4pm and she is now safely in her house in Bukit Mertajam.
MCPXShe was released at 11.10am at the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman and was escorted back to her home by the police.
Tan, 33, was arrested at 8.30pm last night under the Internal Security Act.
Earlier, the minister said this:
Minister: Reporter may be freed today
Sep 13, 08 12:46pmHome Minister Syed Hamid Albar said today that Sin Chew Daily senior reporter Tan Hoon Cheng may be released from Internal Security Act detention as early as today.
Speaking from Johor Baru today, Syed Hamid justified Tan’s detention under the ISA with a rare reason that it was as part of the government’s preventive measure ‘to ensure her safety’.
The minister claimed police intelligence have indicated that the journalist’s life came under threat after she reported an Umno division leader’s allegedly racist remarks.
“We have no intention of holding a reporter as after all she was just taking notes of the comments made by a certain party that led to a public debate.
“She maybe released as soon as today after police have obtained all information needed,”
That’s a first one…using ISA to ensure the safety of the detainee? WOW. SIMPLY amazing!
Two candlelight vigils tonight
Sep 13, 08 10:55am
Two candlelight vigils will be held tonight to protest the arrest of three individuals under the draconian Internal Security Act, which allows for detention without trial.Opposition party DAP, whose parliamentarian Teresa Kok was nabbed late last night, is holding a vigil outside its headquarters in Taman Paramount, Petaling Jaya at 7.30pm.
According to the DAP, the vigil is to express “solidarity” with the ISA detainees.
Meanwhile, another vigil is being planned at 8.30pm outside the Bukit Aman national police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
The ‘Remember Sept 13′ vigil, which is being organised by the Anti-ISA Movement (GMI), will take place at the entrance of the police headquarters.
“Let’s fight for a better Malaysia without ISA,” said GMI in a press release issued early this morning.
If you are in KL, you can turn up for any of the vigils to support the release of the ISA detainees. For any other updates, check out Malaysiakini.
