Where not to stay in Ipoh…Grand View Hotel Ipoh

Grand View Hotel in Ipoh sucks. It is dirty. It has suspicious looking smudges and stains on the walls and dark stains on the carpet.

What else I don’t like about the not so grand Grand View Hotel? Let me list it all out…

1. Hot cond instead of air cond- the clunky air cond operates worse than a fan as in it does not emit any cool air and seemed to be producing more hot air than anything else. The worse part is that the stupid blardy hotel does not have a remote control for the air cond because…’We ran out of remote controls, you will have to call us and we will send someone up to ‘control’ the temperature for you’. Blardy hell. I gave the receptionist an earful and they immediately send up a spare remote control which had miraculously appeared.

2. Lumpy bed, worse than lumpy pillows and threadbare sheets. Also not forgetting scratchy blankets which we didn’t use thanks to the hot cond.

3. Presentable reception does not mean clean and presentable rooms – it is like going from heaven to hell.

4. Ants! – We woke up to find some of my son’s snacks infested with ants!!!!

5. Water the colour of tea – maybe we are used to clean, crystal clear water in Penang but please, water the colour of tea? Ugghhh…we used mineral water to boil water to prepare milk for my son and no, that day, we’d rather risk his teeth rotting than let him brush his teeth over the sink. Uggghhhh…. Too bad we were left with no choice when it came to taking a shower.

6. Dark, dinghy, leaky basement carpark that smells like a dog kennel – seriously, it stinks and some of the pipes leaked so there are pools of water and yes, it is dark and dinghy even for such a tiny little carpark which is only for about 8 cars.

So, will we ever go back to staying in Grand View Hotel the next time we go to Ipoh for a night? No thanks. Not even if it is free. I think I’d rather splurge on Syuen Hotel the next time.  The only reason we stayed on in Ipoh for a night is because we wanted to stay on for the fabulous dim sum at Foh San on Sunday morning.

    • Kesian lah for the not-so-great-experience! I had a bad one too when I visited Johor many years ago. The sheets were not only yellowish (instead of the usual white), when I slipped my feet under them, they went through a big hole! Luckily that was only one off encounter so far!

zaharibb: that’s why I wrote this bad review of the hotel, to warn others about its horrendously poor service.

Bodohland: Luckily no live insects like cockroaches in the sheets….

Foong….lucky not haunted. Years ago we went travelling with a friend and next morning he told me he coudn’t sleep last night because his room was haunted. He told me he felt somebody lay down on top of him. In Cantonese he kena get squashed by a ghost.

When I ask if the ghost is male or female, I get scolding because he was deadly serious and I kept laughing and joking.

engineer:  Did the ghost take out his pants? Did he enjoyed it? Is the ghost pretty? Wei…why no details wan? He is so lucky…some pathetic poor losers have to pay to get prostitutes and he got it for free, some more don’t have to worry about AIDS!

      Hotels a place to unwind
Home isn’t what you would find
It is just a night over
Then you are on your way

Then you find simple basic needs unfulfilled
      Cleanliness seems gone away
      Leaving impression losing business
The basic needs must be kept
      Sometimes hotel owners forget
Cutting costs forgetting customers basic needs

The owners and managers lose the plot
When basic needs aren’t fulfilled, no money coming in
I always feel a let down when I read about customers’ plight
About basic needs of hotel requirements aren’t done it right

Maybe next time you should ask for home stay
In this way the basic needs can be fulfilled
It doesn’t cost you to make hole in your purse

Maybe you should contact the travel agents
These people should know about hotels
The good quality ones with reasonable rates
And they can give you advice…………
They are in the business and some do visit hotels
They promote and sell to their customers

In Penang I can think of Mike Holidays
Michael Ho is an old friend way back
      In my years in Penang……….
In case you want to plan a next holiday
      Somewhere in the country again

Ah Foong…..how I know whether me friend got enjoy himself or not with the ghost. But there are some sick people around who enjoy sex with dead bodies. The shrinks even have a special name for these type of sickos.

Years ago in HK some sicko dug up the body of a young & beautiful actress who commited suicide, shortly after she was buried and had sex with her dead body.

Equally puzzling is how some people can marry a zombie….the sleep walking, brain dead….pee M.
