What’s so great about having fair skin, eh?

Everytime I switched on the telly, I find it most irritating and annoying to be attacked by ad after ad of this beauty product or that skin lotion that will:

1. give you fair complexion

2. make you whiter than a ghost

3. miraculously turned a yellow/brown skinned Asian into the pasty bloodless colour of a corpse

4. miraculously turn your Asian yellow/brown skin into ‘rosy’ fair skin

What the eff is wrong with Malaysian women these days? Obviously when there are a million products to whiten your skin, that means there are high demand for these things.

If it’s a sun-block cream to protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun (which we all know can cause cancer and *gasp* premature aging), I don’t mind. After all, sun-block prevents sunburn AND block out those harmful whatever rays.

Heck, even if it is some miracle lotion or other that promises you smooth, acne-free skin. I’d understand. In fact, I’d want one of those too. Having painful pulsing acne on your face is not a pleasant feeling, I tell you.

As for those fountain of youth creams and lotions, oh well, we all know we are all fighting a losing battle because EVERYONE grows old regardless of what cream, lotion, powder, etc we plaster onto our face, body, etc.

But I digress…

So, what’s with the ridiculous cream or lotion that will turn you into some pasty white corpse look-alike?

What the heck? What’s so great about having fair skin? I must have missed out something because I never knew that pale corpses are gorgeous. I must have missed conversations like this..

Scenario One

Pasty-white female: Oh, *GASP* you look like a real human with some skin tone! You better buy Brand X product to whiten your skin now or else you will never look as beautiful as a dead bloodless corpse EVER.

Brown-skinned female: *GASP* Really?? I didn’t know brown skin is out for this season! Darn. I better go buy a truck load of Brand X products now!

Scenario Two

Fair-skinned female one: Oooh, look, I just bought two truckloads of Brand Z product that promises to make me whiter than snow and look at me!

Fair-skinned female two: Hmmm…I am using Brand A product and it’s making me look much better. See? My skin is paler than a bloodless corpse!

Fair-skinned female three: HAH. My Brand Y product is the best. It turned me from a yellow-skinned Asian into a pale, bloodless ghost. You two can’t beat that!

Really, I didn’t know looking like a corpse or a ghost is an in-thing now or else I would have stayed out of the sun more. I would have invested in a full face mask, heavy duty hats, thick long sleeved shirts and hide inside the office and at home the whole day.

And I used to wonder why all those weird aunties insist on driving around with the ridiculous looking sleeves thingies on their arms.

And it also explains why I am unable to get a proper cheap moisturiser that do not have the word ‘whitening’ on it. All those moisturisers without the words ‘whitening’ on it are either too oily or stuffed into some dusty obscure corner.

How blardy effing irritating.

I think the next in-thing will be to bathe in bleach as it is known to make your dirtiest clothes white. And it’s cheaper too compared to all those expensive branded skin whitening products…

Bleach anyone?
