Why a parasite?

Now, before I start on the parasite thing, I’d like to apologise to all those who are having trouble getting into my site. The slow-loading pages is due to some techie-server issues and my hosting guy is trying to resolve it now. So, if somehow, you manage to get into my site without any problems for now, great. If not, well, hopefully it will be resolved soon. Even I can’t access my own site nowadays, which is why I have not been able to answer to comments in my blog.

It even took me ages to get to the create new post page to write this post. Darn. How annoying.

Okay, now on to the matter of parasites and bundles of joy. Some of you are probably wondering why I’m calling the growing fetus in my womb a parasite. Shouldn’t I be calling it a baby? Here are my reasons…

I watched a documentary on human reproduction once and they did mention that the growing fetus in a mother’s womb is probably the most efficient parasite on earth. It is so efficient that it’s often called a miracle.

Why parasite?

Let’s see. A parasite is a living thing that survives by living off another living thing. For now, the growing fetus in my womb is practically living off me.

So, contrary to common believes that I need to eat for two to feed it, it will still survive even if I don’t eat more. That’s because God has make it possible for growing fetuses in the womb to be able to extract all the nutrients it needs from the mother’s body. So, if I don’t eat enough, I will be the one suffering from lack of nutrients, not the fetus. If I don’t consume enough calcium, I will be the one with brittle bones because the fetus will have taken all the calcium from my body whether I have enough of it or not. In a nutshell, the fetus is the perfect parasite that will find whatever means possible to continue growing and surviving within me regardless of what I eat or don’t eat.

So, why do pregnant mothers need to eat more than usual if the fetus technically do not need to be fed?  That’s because we are the ‘host’ for the parasite and if we don’t replenish all the nutrients it has taken from us, in the end, we will be one the suffering from lack of nutrients and poor health later.

That’s why women are more prone to osteoporosis. Because calcium is one of the main nutrient that we lose the most during pregnancy.

Now, you know why I call the growing fetus in my womb a parasite. That’s because it really is one. Heck, come to think of it…aren’t all children parasites anyway? After all, they live off their parents too…heheheheheh…yep, I was once a parasite until I was set loose into the world and now am creating my own parasites!

Of course calling the growing fetus in my womb a parasite may seem like I do not appreciate the gift from God. After all, not everyone can have children. But then, using the word baby is just too early. It’s not exactly a baby yet. The correct term for now is fetus.

And ‘bundle of joy’ is way to cliched, don’t ya think? Besides, I beg to differ that a baby is a bundle of joy. It is far too politically incorrect. It should be a bundle of joy, poo, pee, bawl and stress, sleepless nights, high blood pressure when it outgrew the bundle.

Thus concludes my parasite talks.

  • I disagree. To me, parasite is something that lives on the host, takes everything from the host but returns nothing. Children gives so much more return in exchange for a small sacrifice, don’t you think? No? OK, speak scientifically, offspring offers the survival of our species. That is not parasite, that is our hope.

Still, a child is something any parent (mother or father) would be happy to have. Calling it a parasite, for me, defeats the purpose of even having procreated in the first place. Just my opinion. :-)
