Wuah…I didn’t know it’s so easy to get PhDs and MBAs and whatever paper qualification to adorn one’s name…
The Starprobe’s search reveals that many Malaysians are buying dubious Bachelor’s, Master’s and even Doctorates from popular degree “conferring” bodies, among them the American-based Preston Uni-versity and Newport University; Dublin Metropolitan University (DMU) and Irish International University (IIU).
If I knew it was that easy, I would have stopped studying, drop out and purchase one of those degrees and just charm my way through job interviews to get a higher paying job.
Eh. But then that’s what I did wor. No, no, no…not the purchasing degree part. I did stop studying college and drop out. And yes, I did charm my way through job interviews and managed to jump several levels in my career over the last decade or so. And yes, I am probably earning more than some graduates.
But don’t need to waste money on any degree, bought or earned. See? Whoever said talent (of which, yours truly has plenty…ahem!!) is not recognised eh? And working one’s way up the ladder is way more practical, ain’t it? Why bother paying some dubious conman loads of $$ for a piece of paper which is now discovered to be worth less than toilet paper?
I really, truly don’t understand Malaysian’s preoccupation with the paper qualification. Heck, many local uni grads don’t even know nuts about anything at all. Are their paper qualifications worth anything anyway? I doubt it. Maybe it can serve as another abbreviation to add to one’s name in one’s business cards but really, what do they even learn in university?
From what I gathered. Nothing. Some local university graduates can’t even string a proper English sentence together. And some don’t even know how to apply what they seemingly learnt in uni. So, are they any different from those who bought themselves those fake shiny new degrees? Probably not much.
Mind you, I am not saying all local grads are like that. Some of ‘em are quite okay while some are….well, I have the opportunity of training quite a few (when they are in my company as trainees) and lemme tell you, I think I would have died of high blood pressure if they continued their training period to more than six months. Some of them are so daft and blur, I think it would be easier teaching a dog to do the job they were given. While of course, there are a few who are really good and hardworking but then, they are very few and far in between.
Hmmm…it seems like street smart people like me with tonnes of working experience of clawing our way up are way better than those know-nothing grads, lazy grads and fake grads. So, I feel that we of the street smarts and experience smarts group should be given the honourary doctorate (from an accredited uni, of course!), doncha think?
But then on second thoughts. I’d prefer $$$ anytime. Just give me RM1mil and I’ll be happy. No need for a string of abbreviations after my name. Besides, what’s the point of having a piece of paper with your name on it when it doesn’t really make you smarter or richer? Ceh. I think I’d rather work on getting a steady online income and then be a work at home mom.
Holding the titles ‘Mom’ and ‘Wife’ are way more important than any stupid paper or abbreviation but if you like, you can still call me Dr Foong (that will have to be a Doctorate in Sarcasm)….heheheheh

Doctor here yes over there true
String of titles glow in the eyes
“Clever people my children”
The old people use to say
University degrees
The paper chase the parents crave
The children go for it
Will they know how to use?
In the crazy world they run along?
I learned from university streets
Honed by skills sweat it out
Learned it by myself in the toilet
It is here I read a lot
Though I got my paper
When I was at the top
Enjoying while I could
“Boss here Boss there”
But my name they forgot
I have a cousin
Flopped form 3 now a Datuk
When I went to visit my late aunty
I saw his string of credits
BA, MBA and Phd
I didn’t meet him so I never ask
It is the skills, knowledge and experience
On the job teaching acquired it through work
Universities don’t teach to the job markets
When graduates walk through interviews
They are at loss of what to say
Some are good
When coaching them through
When it is all said and done
“Dr Foong” it is still money
Lots of it to put a smile
So dream on
Think positively it will happen
Without sweating it
Nothing will be
Hi, Dr Foong! Haha! Actually some people already call me Dr Foong already when I advise them on health and health issues so I’m the other Dr Foong. LOL!
