In case you are wondering, no I have not delivered yet

Although the time is very, very near, within this week or so or even a few hours from now, I have not delivered yet. Which does not really explain the long silence in this blog. Why have I not been blogging? Hmmmm…I would like to blame it on lack of time, etc but really, it’s just that I am busy.

Really.

Okay, so, I’ve been busy ’socialising’ on FB. heheheh… the social network is darn addictive, especially the mini games in it.

Anyway, I am now awaiting the time to meet our new addition to our family. So, am I ready?

Hopefully.

Now, after a break of three years plus, I have quite forgotten what labour pains are like. It was all fuzzy to me. Amazing isn’t it? Labor is probably one of the most painful moments for women and yet it is the most easy to forget. Strange but true. That’s why women continue to have babies or else we will all be heading to extinction!

Anyway, since I don’t quite remember what it’s like, I’ve gathered some ‘reminders’ from helpful friends…so, if you are pregnant and in your third trimester, here are the signs to watch out for to know if you are in labour or not:

1. You will feel a cramp-like pain in your belly and somehow, it’s like connected to your back. So, it’s like a combination of front and back pain inside. Sorta like a mega period pain.

2. It is false contractions if you only feel the pain once or twice and then it goes away. But if the pain is regular, like every hour or every 10 minutes, then you are in labour.

3. Count your contractions. If it is an hour apart, you still have time. No need to rush (unless you stay hours away from the hospital). The best time to go in is when the contractions is about 5 minutes apart but if you are worried about traffic conditions, etc, then go in early but be prepared to be confined to the labor room for hours which is a real bore.

4. If you feel a gush of water down below and can’t control it, then you are not leaking urine but your water bag just broke. If your water bag broke, it is advisable to go to the hospital as soon as possible. Also, note that if the water is clear or stained. If it is brownish, its possible that the baby may have poo-ed inside and you have to inform your doctor about it as they will have to hasten your delivery to ensure the baby did not swallow its own poo.

5. If you are spotting (as in bleeding a bit), wait for the contractions. No need to panic. But if you are like gushing blood, then better go to the hospital immediately.

So there. I am all ready to check for any of the signs above. Oh yeah, don’t get all stressed up over the labor / delivery. Remember, every mother in this world has gone through this before so you are not alone! Me? I just can’t wait to get it over with!
