Crappy confinement believes blearghh

So, I had my baby. Thus, the long, long, long silence at this blog. And in before I know it, it is already one month! Oh wow, time sure do fly when you have loads of things to do. Learning to cope with a new baby again is a real challenge with a hyperactive boy at home, but I guess I will adjust to it pretty soon.

Anyway, what gets me the most about this whole month is the tonnes of confinement ‘rules’ and ‘believes’ that are thrown at me by anyone who ‘were just being helpful’. Yeah sure. Telling me old wives tales and myths and all sorts of stupid believes are…well, IRRITATING!

Let me list the stupid confinement believes that I scoff at:

1. Can’t touch water / take shower / wash hair – HELLO? Ever heard of personal hygiene? Would YOU let someone who has not taken a shower / washed their hair for a month touch your baby? I rest my case.

2. Can’t drink water but must only drink milo / milk / black date ginger tea – so, I might as well drain my body of the water it contains? Without water we die, okay? Ever heard of dehydration?

3. Can’t switch on the air-cond / no direct wind from the fan – in our freaking HOT weather? and combine that with no shower? what are they, nuts? And they obviously overlooked the fact that the hospital is air-conditioned!

4. must only eat heaty stuff such as ginger, sesame oil, loads of meat and avoid fruits and ‘cool’ vegetables – the perfect recipe for constipation. Talk about unbalanced diet.

5. must sit down more/ sleep more/ rest more – and turn into a pig by the end of the month. If its for the first few days after delivery, yes, it is understandable. But seriously, who gets to sleep with a newborn baby around?

Oh well, that’s all past and done. I did drink black date tea. AND I did drink water too.  And yes, I did ate loads of those ginger and sesame oil fried stuff. Uggh. After this, I will probably avoid ginger and sesame oil like the plague!

    It depends on wealth
    Richer you are easy lay
On the bed let the maids do
    Life will be easy
    Nothing to worry

    The poor can’t afford
    Less than a week confinement
    Off to do the chores
    Working for the money
    Many mouths to feed

    The crappy confinement rituals
    Only the old wives tales…….
Amongst themselves living of the old
It can’t be applied; it may sound silly

    Resting to heal the wound
Get back the energy knowing more to do
It isn’t easy to feed many in the homes
    Only what make you enjoy
    Feeling good doing it
    It will make you happy
    Seeing the world around you

    p/s congratulations!
